The fishing industry has long had an important economic and social impact on our coastal regions. The industry provides a multiplier effect for jobs in many of these coastal areas and therefore must be protected, especially in the context of the recent Brexit deal. In addition to protecting our coastal communities, we must also protect and conserve our stocks to ensure fishing can endure long into the future. Measures to promote and support protection of the marine environment against climate change, plastics and overfishing are key to securing the future of the industry.
